Two strong earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6 hit Pazarcık and Elbistan in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey on February 6, 2023. The tremors have caused catastrophic destruction in ten provinces with Hatay, Kahramanmaras, and Gaziantep being the hardest hit. Almost 14 million people are affected, with 9.1 million directly impacted. By February 21, over 41,000 people had lost their lives, and tens of thousands were injured. The UNDP estimates that 1.5 million people have been left homeless. Although the emergency phase is over, Turkey is now faced with the critical challenge of rehabilitating its people.
