John Dramani Mahama was inaugurated as Ghana's president on January 7, 2025

John Dramani Mahama was inaugurated as Ghana's president on January 7, 2025, marking his return to the presidency after previously serving from 2012 to 2017.

The inauguration ceremony took place at Black Star Square in Accra, attended by dignitaries including African leaders such as Rwanda's Paul Kagame and Kenya's William Ruto.

In his inaugural address, President Mahama emphasized his commitment to addressing Ghana's economic challenges, including high inflation and unemployment. He pledged to prioritize economic restoration, stabilization, good governance, and the fight against corruption.

Mahama's administration faces significant economic hurdles, with recent reports indicating a rise in consumer inflation for the fourth consecutive month, reaching 23.8% year-on-year in December 2024.

Additionally, the energy sector is burdened with debt, and there is a pressing need to boost the economy to alleviate public dissatisfaction.

To address these challenges, President Mahama has begun assembling his cabinet, appointing Cassiel Ato Forson as finance minister, John Abdulai Jinapor as energy minister, and Dominic Akuritinga Ayine as minister of justice and attorney general.

These appointments aim to stimulate the economy, create jobs, and tackle the cost-of-living crisis affecting the nation.
