Intense Seismic Activity on Reykjanes Peninsula Raises Concerns of Imminent Volcanic Eruption

A series of significant earthquakes and ongoing seismic activity on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula have raised fears of an imminent volcanic eruption.

Over 4,700 quakes have been recorded since July 4, with the largest measuring M4.8. Geologists have noted a more aggressive magma intrusion compared to previous years, accompanied by a land uplift of 3cm across a larger area.

The eruption is expected to occur between the mountains Keilir and Fagradalsfjall. Experts have expressed concerns about the potential impact on the Reykjanesbraut road and the safety of tourists visiting the area. The Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management is issuing warnings to residents and tourists, emphasizing the dangers of falling rocks and the possibility of an eruption.
